Raf Notermans

On my birthday we had an very early start. From 8AM until 9AM Leon Legierse(Roosendaal), Janneke Ooms(Valkenburg), July Kind(Utrecht) and Raf Notermans(Valkenburg) we presented Dutch Special Education and Intraweb. Leon explained our Dutch educational system and Raf interacted with the people in the room and showed all the work Janneke and he did from 2005 until now on their Intraweb of school. We had a very enthousiast audience, who had a lot of interesting questions. One of them was:"Please, could we take this with us?" So we provided them with a memorystick on which there was a draft version of Intraweb based on the free CMS Joomla. Surely not as interesting for kids as our version, but very usefull.

Leon Legierse

The workshop 'Intraweb and Dutch special education' started at 8.00 p.m. There where 12 special needs professionals in the room and a lot ofcolleagues from our 'Dutch inviasion'. The presenters where Raf Notermans and leon Legierse. The first part was an explenation of our Dutch schoolsystem. The second part was a presentation of the educational intranet which was made bij Raf en his colleague Janneke. Then we presented the format of an educational intraweb in a open source content managed system: wordpress.

The presentation went very well. The audience was very attentive en interested. They liked the idea en could take home everything they need to get started. It was Raf his birthday so he could treat the people whith a memorystick whith the program and manuals. Then we sang for him. There was a nice and friendly admosphere.

After the workshop there was a good discussion about inclusion. There where a lot of questions about the differences between the systems of the US and the Netherlands.

One of the us teachers said 'It was a very good workshop to begin the day.'

Hans Walrecht

This presentation, called "I can do it myself", was performed by Ronno de Nijs (how special needs education is payed for), Alexander Kracht ( one child one plan) and Hans W. (how can ICT make this possible). There were aproximately fifteen Special Ed. teachers in the audience. It was an interesting experience presenting in the USA. As we had some time left there was time for a discussion. The first teacher attending this presentation came up with an interesting question about inclusive education. A lively discussion followed. It was interesting to learn how Special Ed is organized in the USA. In contrast with the Netherlands, a -let's say- 100 student Special Needs school is put in a regular school. Together, but still apart...

In the Netherlands, these kids are submerged in regular classes and councils are vistiting the schools where they are placed, regularly.
